Variable DC-Link Voltage Control Algorithm of Power Converter for Plasma Generators

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this study, a control method to improve the light and intermediate load efficiencies of a plasma generator is proposed. Considering the characteristics of plasma load, which requires high voltage and high frequency operations, a control method that can reduce losses that occur in the power semiconductor device and transformer is designed. In addition, the efficiency of the system applying the proposed control method and the conventional control method is estimated through simulations and calculation results to review the possibility of improvement in the efficiencies of light and intermediate loads. Finally, the feasibility and suitability of the proposed control method is verified by measuring the efficiency of each control method using a prototype of 25 kW.
