Abstract

In this study, the room temperature formability of AZ31-0.5Ca was significantly enhanced by pre-deformation to 5% plastic strain. The pre-deformed samples showed the evolution of boundaries related to (Formula presented.) tension twins resulting in weakening of the strong basal texture and leading to excellent improvement in the formability. The pre-induced twining can be considered to be an effective approach to control the texture and enhance the formability of Mg alloy.
