Abstract

In this study, Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ (YAG:Ce3+) was utilized to generate white-LED. A form of phosphor-in-glass (PiG) is applied instead of epoxy-phosphor mixture, because epoxy-phosphor mixture is thermally unstable. Since the remote type enables to reduce the required content of phosphor and thermal properties, it can solve the problem of color coordinates shift by heat-degradation; this means that LEDs can work more stably even under heat generation. Luminous properties of the PiG are influenced by several variables. But in this study, we focused on the effect of the thickness on thermal stability, which can especially contribute to the application to high-power LED.
