Abstract

The ES-BGK model is a generalized version of the BGK model of the Boltzmann equation designed to reproduce the correct Prandtl number in the Navier–Stokes limit. We prove the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions to the ES-BGK model for polyatomic molecules when the total energy of the initial data is not necessarily finite.
