Abstract

Does mobility matter in handheld devices used for assessing and delivering information? With a rapid advancement in mobile technologies in recent years, various types of mobile devices are now available to users. Although many studies have examined the importance of readability using fixed monitors, little emphasis has been given to the effects of mobility on mobile device users' perceived readability, comprehensibility, and satisfaction. The present study investigates the effects of mobility on psychology of mobile device users assessing news information through their handheld mobile devices. Results from a between-subjects experiment show that handheld mobile devices elicited greater satisfaction and readability while fixed devices with no mobility was key to greater learning effect. That is, the greater the mobility, the greater satisfaction and readability.
