Abstract

[Cu(I)4(hedtc)4]∙4THF (1) and [In(III)(hedtc)3]∙3THF (2) [hedtc = S2CNHCH2CH2OH, mono(2-hydroxyethyl) dithiocarbamate] were synthesized from reactions of Cu(II)Cl2·2H2O, In(III)CI3, and NH4(hedtc) in aqueous solution; these also are soluble in polar organic solvents due to the hydroxy group in the hedtc ligand. Four monovalent copper ions of 1 form a tetranuclear cluster with copper–copper metal bonds and a copper–sulfur coordination environment. The three-dimensional structure of 1 has the parallel arrangement of eight Cu(I)4hedtc4 molecules. The indium of 2 is bound to three hedtc ligands with distorted octahedral coordination. The molecular packing of 2 shows the two-dimensional hexagonal network with three neighboring indium complexes. Both compounds have tetrahydrofuran (THF) solvent molecules that participate in hydrogen bonding of O–H and N–H groups.
