Abstract
Subscapularis tendon has long been neglected due to its several special features. However, recently with the development of diagnostic tools and arthroscopic surgery, it has gained much popularity. Especially upper 1/3 tear has been recently been focused which is one the most common tears involved in isolated subscapularis tear or combined supraspinatus/ infraspinatus rotator cuff tears. This chapter gives overview of recent update of subscapular tendon tear and its treatment. The tear classification was redefined with facet concept to make the surgeons understand the extent of the tear. It will also give some common ground how the partial- and full-thickness tear of the upper 1/3 tear looks like in arthroscopic findings. Also, this chapter give some insight in the tear of acute tears on chronic basis. “Acute on chronic” tear is quite common setting in subscapularis tendon tears or anterosuperior tears. The case is presented with this common scenario. Finally, the large tears are very difficult for underexperienced arthroscopic surgeons; however, many large tears can be repaired arthroscopically with good results. This chapter also describes in detail for advanced arthroscopic technique.
