Abstract
Based on the client-server application model, an MPEG-4 speech/audio streaming system over the Internet is implemented and demonstrated. This system provides an architectural prototype for carriage of MPEG-4 data over IP (Internet Protocol) network via RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) and RTP (Real Time Protocol). MPEG-4 natural audio parametric coding functionalities are fully explored for the coding of speech signals at 2kbps to 4kbps and the coding of non-speech signals at bit rates of 4kbps up to 16kbps. A set of MPEG-4 oriented RTSP feedback controls is utilized for client-to-server interactivity.
