Sobel Edge-based Image Template Matching in FPGA

Abstract

Object detection is a key component of computer vision. In this paper, we propose a template matching algorithm based on Sobel edge. The goal of this study is to accurately detect objects using a fast processing speed and template patching based on Sobel edge detection. This algorithm is designed to detect 63×63 pixel part images with different brightness conditions from 640 x 480 source images. The proposed algorithm is coded using Verilog HDL and implemented on a Virtex-7 FPGA.
