Abstract

The first measurements using the (d, p) transfer reaction to study single-particle states in nuclei on the expected r-process path have been made at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility. The shell closure at N = 50 has been crossed using the ⁸²Ge(d,p) and ⁸⁴Se(d,p) reactions. The properties of the lowest-lying states have been determined. Furthermore, the ¹³²Sn(d, p) reaction has been used for the first time to populate single-particle states in ¹³³Sn.
