Abstract

Two types of carbon material, namely nanocapsules and mesocellular foams, were selectively synthesized by surface-modified colloidal silica templating and microemulsion polymerization. Carbon nanocapsules, about 30 nm in diameter, were fabricated using colloidal silica, divinylbenzene, and MMA. In addition, mesocellular carbon foams, with an average pore diameter of 22 nm, were also produced by the same synthetic procedure, but without MMA.
