Abstract

Physichemically complex nanostructured polymer templates and demonstrated their application to the sub-micrometer-scale patterning of colloidal particles. When negatively charged diluted colloidal suspensions were placed on the template, the particles were selectively adsorbed in positively charged grooves or holes. It was confirmed that the charge interaction between particles and multilayer-coated templates is the main effect driving the selective assembly of colloidal particles on the substrate. It is verified that the efficiency of particle assembly on the template decreases with decreasing particle size due to weak electrostatic energy. Various interactions including hydrogen bonding can be applied in the process, which can introduce the potential formation of multicomponent arrays on the surface.
