Abstract

Modern cloud platforms adopt Cgroups to efficiently utilize system resources and guarantee service-level objective (SLO). However, Cgroups cannot achieve SLO guarantee, when multiple Cgroups instances share data in the page cache. In this paper, we reveal that this limitation originates from the incomplete page ownership management of conventional Cgroups and suggest an optimized ownership management scheme. Our scheme accurately identifies the ownership information of each page in the page cache, and utilizes it in controlling I/O resources. Evaluation results show that, unlike the conventional scheme, our scheme effectively guarantees SLO of the Cgroups instances in terms of I/O throughput.
