Abstract

This work is presented to investigate the homogeneity of microstructures evolved after cross-shear deformations imposed by a differential speed rolling (DSR) process. For this purpose, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) microstructures and through-thickness hardness maps of AA6061 aluminum alloy samples deformed by the DSR process are investigated. The results reveal the evolution of ultrafine grained structures (≈0.3 µm) after DSR deformation. Additionally, it is found that the through-thickness homogeneity is clearly improved as the number of the cross-shear increases.
