Low complexity video enhancement of video phone calls with a limited mobile terminal's capability

Abstract

Currently, most Korean domestic 3G terminals use VT (Video Telephony) service. This service is based on circuit switching with video codec standard of 8.263 or MPEG-4. There is a strong need for enhancing image qualities by VT terminal before transmitting, however, its limited processing capability does not allow for such processing. In this paper, we propose a low complexity video post-processing method implementable in resource-limited Qualcomm Tm MSM platform. This proposed algorithm improves low quality video acquired by cheap VGA camera taken in un-friendly environment.It improves brightness and colors, so it perceptually enhances image quality in VT.
