Abstract

This paper presents a PCS band linear power amplifier with high average efficiency using a dynamic quiescent current control circuit. A dynamic quiescent current control circuit, which enables the quiescent current to be gradually increased with control voltage increase, has been designed using InGaP/GaAs HBT technology. The 2-stage amplifier has been implemented to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed control scheme compared to classical discrete mode control. With IS95B reverse-link signal, this amplifier shows about 2 times higher average efficiency than that of the discretely controlled amplifier.
