Abstract

This paper presents the design of a 112-element waveguide slot array antenna with reduced grating lobe characteristics for millimeter-wave applications. A hybrid feeding technique combining a co-phase feed and an alternating-phase feed is applied to achieve the grating lobe reduction of 8.1 dB on the diagonal planes as compared to a conventional alternating-phase-fed waveguide slot array antenna. To realize a tapered aperture distribution, a stepped feed waveguide and offset coupling slot aligned in a line are employed. The experimental results show that the proposed antenna has a -15 dB reflection bandwidth of 3.4%, an average realized gain of 26.75 dBi, and low peak sidelobes of less than - 26.4 dB at the designed frequency f0.
