Flow-level traffic modeling for creating a traffic generator

Abstract

In order to efficiently run and manage a network, the network structure must be able to express the various types of traffic flowing through the network and the elements that compose the network in a simulation network environment. This study was aimed at examining the flow-level traffic modeling in order to implement a simulation traffic generator for network performance assessment. We propose a traffic modeling using flow information so to improve the shortcomings founds in the packet-level modeling and application-level modeling studies in the existing traffic generator. We also suggest a classification of new and existing applications in order to resolve the issues with the application-level mechanism.
