Abstract

The effect of fine particle mass ratio on flow characteristics of ternary mixture of particles with different densities and wide (flat) size distribution were studied in 0.1m diameter riser of a circulating fluidized bed. As the gas superficial velocity gradually increases, the bed undergoes the fixed-bed, partial fluidized-bed and fully fluidized-bed region. Then, Uif, Ucf and Umf for all mixtures are determined. This study focuses on mixing and segregation behavior in complete fluidized bed region (above Ucf). At low gas velocity, bed behaves like bubbling bed and at high gas velocity bed similar to fast fluidized bed.
