Abstract

The field emission of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) and multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) tips were investigated in flat panel displays and compared. A diode structure was used for field emission measurements. The MWNTs and SWNTs were synthesized in a direct-current system with 360 Torr of helium. The field emitters possessed uniformity using slurry squeezing and surface rubbing technique. The removal of metal powders on the surface and the alignment of the nanotubes by surface treatment enhanced the light emission.
