Abstract
In this paper, to address the time costs associated with three-dimensional (3D) analysis for permanent magnet eddy current loss (PMECL) of axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motors (AFPMs), an analysis method utilizing quasi-3D analysis is proposed. Initially, the principle and general calculation methods of the quasi-3D analysis was introduced to analyze electromagnetic performances of the AFPM; however, this approach did not account for calculating PMECL. Subsequently, cause of error in PMECL results from general post-processing of quasi-3D analysis was analyzed, leading to the proposal of a calculation method for PMECL using quasi-3D analysis. This method was then validated through comparison with 3D finite element analysis (FEA) results. Finally, the construction of the PMECL map using the proposed method demonstrated not only a good correlation with 3D FEA results but also significant reductions in time costs, thereby confirming the method’s effectiveness.
