Abstract

Claw-pole type motor is known for its high inductance, saturation region and unique simple structure, which leads to nonlinear characteristic performance. Moreover, due to its unique structure, this type of motor needs to be analyzed using 3-D FEM (3-Dimensional Finite Element Method) that requires lots of solving time. Therefore, it is crucial to understand what effects design parameters has on motor performance. In this paper, 3-D FEM results are compared, when design parameters such as motor height, claw height, claw skew angle, coil turns and number of poles are changed. Furthermore, it suggests a strategy to reduce time required to design claw-pole type motor based on the result of 3-D FEM compared with variables.
