Abstract

A resistance measurement system was used to detect wet areas of a thermally insulated pipeline in district heating systems. Sensor wire was embedded in the insulation to measure insulation resistance, which is related to moisture content and concentration of dissolved salts. The correlation between insulation resistance and corrosion rate was studied by direct current insulation resistance measurement and electrochemical techniques.
