Abstract

To examine the genetic differences and similarities of two closed related individuals of the Bombina orientalis in Far East Asia, we determined the complete mitogenome sequence of Bombina orientalis from South Korea and compared the control region to that of individuals from China, as well as directly comparing the complete mitogenome sequences of those individuals. In the comparison of sequence similarity between the individuals from Korea and China, 13 protein-coding genes showed over 96% similarity, while 16S and 12S rRNA genes showed relatively lower similarities of 66% and 71%, respectively. Interestingly, a significant deletion in the control region was found in the individual from Korea, mainly due to the deletion of the tandem repeat sequence regions of the 5′ and 3′-ends.
