Abstract

In this paper, we report a comparative study of permanent magnet vernier motor (PMVM) according to gear ratio for improving power factor. For the design of the PMVM, it is important to consider the gear ratio, where the vernier effect occurs when the gear ratio is over 1. The high gear ratio can be generated using the distributed winding in the fractional slot or the flux modulation pole structure. Therefore, it is necessary to clearly classify the vernier motor designed in various ways according to the gear ratio level. Also, it is required to analyze the characteristics of the classified PMVMs and compare the pros and cons according to vernier types.
