Abstract

The performance of calcined MnO2-ZrO2-SiO2 (MZS) compositions as sintering aids for a non-reducible (Ca0.7Sr0.3O)1.03(Ti0.1Zr0.9)O2 (CSTZ) dielectric material has been investigated at the sintering temperature of 1230-1250 °C in a reducing atmosphere. The sintered body yielded the (Ca0.7Sr0.3O)1.03(Ti0.1Zr0.9)O2 dielectric phase with traces of calcium zirconates. When 2.5 wt% of MZS (0.55MnO2-0.05ZrO2-0.40SiO2) was added and sintered at 1250 °C, the specimen demonstrated an apparent density of 4.95 g/cm3, a dielectric constant of 32.4, a dielectric loss of 0.0003, an insulation resistance of 2×1011 Ω, and temperature coefficients of capacitance of -12 ppm at -55 °C and -9 ppm at 125 °C (with respect to the 25 °C standard). These dielectric properties satisfy the C0G characteristics, and thus the CSTZ dielectric material with the MZS sintering aid can be used for multilayer capacitors with high temperature reliability.
