Abstract

In this paper, a method for parallel reprogramming automotive electronic control units that reduces the total reprogramming time is proposed. The method is implemented in an in-vehicle domain control unit which performs the role of the gateway between the backbone network and its own sub-network. We built a test environment that consists of an in-vehicle network system based on Ethernet backbone to measure, analyze and evaluate the reprogramming performance. Experiment results show that the proposed parallel reprogramming method can reduce the total reprogramming time at least 39% compare to the sequential reprogramming method with the increasing number of reprogramming target ECUs connecting different sub-networks.
