Abstract

These days, DC-based power systems are paid attention even including Low Voltage DC (LVDC) distribution system. LVDC distribution systems include many advantages in better energy efficiency, easier interconnection with Distributed Generation (DG), etc. To commercialize LVDC distribution system, however, some challenges should be overcome in the aspect of protection such as fast interruption, Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) requirement, reclosing scheme, etc. This paper discusses the protection system for LVDC distribution system based on Solid State Fault Current Limiter (SSFCL) as one of the countermeasures. Furthermore, to prove its applicability, various simulations are conducted by using ElectroMagnetic Transients Program (EMTP).
