Abstract
Tumor Angiogenesis is a significant hallmark in tumor development. However, most in vivo researches exploit tumor cell cultures with no consideration to Tumor microenvironment(TME) including vasculature surrounding Tumor Spheroid. Here, we developed vascularized tumor spheroid(VTS) model that reproduces the pathological and morphological characteristics of in vivo vascularized solid TME. The tumor spheroid incorporated model showed a higher vasculature permeability coefficient compared to control(vasculature only), increased focal intercellular openings of microvascular network demonstrating hallmarks of tumor vasculature. Furthermore, we demonstrated the effects of the cancer drug; Axitinib by measuring blood-vessel area and spheroid tumor size, emphasizing the significance of tumor vascularization.
